What Is More Spiritual or Practical Than Living?

I

To quote Einstein, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Enchanted Living to me is living in each moment as a blessed event. Think about it…if you have an event, you clean the space, decorate it, send out invitations, set out the good China and make every detail special. Each day we wake up, each moment we can breathe deeply, when we can feel the sun on our face and hug our loved ones; this is a beautiful day, a blessed event. This is Enchanted Living.

Desert Enchantress is a space where spirituality & practicality merge. What is more spiritual or practical than living?  What is more miraculous than being able to create experiences that enhance the joy of just BEing?

Sometimes we get in a rut. We become so overwhelmed or just complacent and we revert to just going through the motions or we stick our head in the sand. We begin operating on auto-pilot. But life is too short, or sometimes too long to just merely exist. Just as a relationship or business takes constant attention; so does our living experience.

My aim is to inspire you to savor living. To infuse the sacred in your daily round. As I make my bed and let the sun in the room each morning, I can’t help but smile. I love to see my bed made and clothes picked up. I love to walk into the rooms of my loft and see the sun streaming upon my old wooden floors. They have stories, they have scuffs, scratches, mismatched stains and drops of paint from generations of people experiencing life upon them.

As I wash my dishes, I admire the antique look of the thick red glasses with bubbles inside them. It reminds me of champagne bubbles, reminding me to celebrate the little moments I am gifted each day.

As I take out my enamelware pots with the beautiful turquoise color on the outside and the crisp white inside, it brings me joy as I begin to prepare my food. Chopping up the meat and vegetables as I prepare my meals is a relaxing and sacred time to me.

I live alone now; and usually it is just a small meal for myself. When I had someone to cook for, at 4 pm I would clear up whatever I was working on, turn on an episode of M.A.S.H. or an educational audio. I would stand at the counter and begin cleaning and chop. This was a peaceful time, enjoying the last moments of my personal time for the day. Learning a new skill, being inspired or just laughing with Alan Alda and the entire cast. The show would go off and my partner would come home & we would enjoy a wonderful meal and talk about the day.

Although, preparing a meal, washing the dishes and making the bed are very mundane tasks. The attitude and energy you put into them is what creates a sacred experience or a boring chore. Your Point of View here is the key. Why would you purposefully choose to create a negative experience in something you do on a regular basis?

What can you change that would make your living experience more Enchanted? Where are you in need of a sprinkling of the sacred in the mundane tasks of your life? What could you add to your living experience that would brighten your attitude and your daily round?  Currently, if I am feeling like my tasks are a bit mundane & routine, I can put on some jazz or Big Band music and soon I am dancing and whipping right through those chores as if it were the best thing in the world.

What can you do to flip your mundane routines into a sacred ritual? What can you add to your life that would bring a greater sense of enjoyment to your living experiences? Desert Enchantress is a space where spirituality & practicality merge. Where can you merge the two in your experience of living?

Why would you save the sacred for one or two hours a week in a temple or church? You are a spiritual being having a practical physical experience here on this earth. I invite you to look at each moment of your experience here as a sacred event. Honor it, make it special, live each moment like it is a sacred moment in time; because it truly is.
